13 Steps to Accomplish in Construction Project Management

Nowadays, with so much development happening around the world, construction has become a focal point for government development plans. Many agencies are jumping on the bandwagon to secure lucrative construction deals; however, only those succeed who have invested time to streamline their construction project management.

1. Acquire Land

The first thing one needs to do is find a piece of land that is ideal for their construction project; however, be careful when choosing the land as it must have all the facilities nearby that will allow residents to occupy the property without any issues.

2. Permits

Once the designs are complete, it is now time for you to get them approved. Note that there are certain laws that need to be complied with. Home ministries often have certain guidelines that need to be followed at all times, for instance, the height of the walls can be of certain meters. These permits are necessary and are a part of the construction process. You will be required to take different permits during different stages. That is why it is better to know all the legal requirements when getting into the construction project.

3. Clearance

Site clearance is important to do before the construction commences. It is vital that you get the unwanted grass, boulders, and tree logs out of the way. If there is a hill, it needs to be cleared, and if there is a pit, it needs to be filled.

4. Design

Once you have the land, you are prepared for the next step. You must seek consultation from skilled architects who can help you bring your vision to paper. An architect will help you build a plan according to your requirements and budget. Then a structural engineer will look after the structural needs of the building.

Before meeting with the architect, you must make your own rough requirements to cover certain concepts such as the designs of your living room, home, kitchen, car porch, ponds, garden, guestroom, and the main bedroom.

5. Budgets

Once you have the plan, you will now look for the materials you want to use when constructing the building. For this, it is essential to make estimates for everything, from tiles, to cement to other structural raw materials.

During this time, you will make apt estimates about the quantity you need, and in case your budget gets exhausted, you need a backup plan, which is a part of every construction project management.

6. Your Contractor

Once you have done the initial work, it’s time to choose a contractor who has a lot of experience building quality buildings. You must do thorough research before the builder is hired. You should look at their past projects, contract documents, and the estimates they are quoting must be compared with other contractor’s quotes.

7. Foundations

The foundation work will be carried out once the contractor is finalized. They will ensure that the plan is being agreed upon at the design stage. During this phase, you must ensure that the size of the foundation, depth, width, and length are all being followed as per the agreed specifications.

8. Column Work

Once the initial stages are done, the structure needs to stand, and that is done through the construction of columns that allow the building to stand on its feet. The columns will give the ceiling the necessary support too.

9. Roof Structure

Once the columns are placed, the framework starts to build a slab that will rest on the columns.

10. Plastering

Plastering happens when the lighting and plumbing work is done. Most of the time, cement is used to plaster with 12 mm thickness, and at times it can be of 20 mm thickness depending on the structural requirements.

The plastering is done for many reasons. It helps the building remain structurally strong, protects it from the weather, and gives a very pleasing look.

11. Doors and Windows

Now that you have the whole structure built, you can add in the doors and windows to ensure no opening in your house is exposed. Choose attractive windows and doors as they will define the vibe of your home. Ensure that you select large glass windows so that natural light can come into the home.

12. Painting

This is the essential part of constructing a home. Choosing colours is never an easy task; however, ensure that you do not choose very dark colours as that can absorb the sunlight making your home extra hot.

13. Finishing

The last stage is completing the construction with the final touches. This could include anything from installing bathroom faucets to installing kitchen cabinets. Once you are done with this, you will have a complete house that is pleasing to the eyes. You can sell the house for a profit or move in with your family.

Conclusion

If you are a construction project manager, you must know all the steps to be followed. It is advised you use a project management software that specializes in construction such as Jonas Premier. However, note that the steps can vary depending on your requirements. Still, it is advised that you work closely with your client before you embark on your construction project.
