Vaping CBD is fast becoming one of the most popular ways to consume CBD, with 43% of vape shops carrying CBD vapes. It’s clean and convenient, but even the best vape pen cartridge can have issues. Keep reading to learn about ways to get your vape pen cartridge back up and vaping in no time.
Anatomy of a Vape Pen
A vape pen comprises two main parts: the cartridge and the pen itself. The cartridge screws on top of the pen, and it heats and atomizes the liquid inside.
The pen is mainly a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a switch to activate it. Some pens include adjustable wattage settings that can intensify your experience, while others operate at a preset wattage setting optimized for a vape cartridge.
When you press the button or inhale on a draw-activated pen, you complete a circuit that atomizes the liquid inside the cartridge. Usually, this simple process works flawlessly, but problems can occur.
Common Vape Pen Cartridge Issues
Most vape pen issues can arise from a bad electrical connection between the bottom of the cartridge and the pen itself. Many of these are easy to diagnose and fix yourself with a bit of education.
Lithium-ion batteries are not user-serviceable and have the potential to cause serious injury if tampered with improperly. The one component that a regular vaper should never service is the pen itself. If your battery is swelling or getting hot to the touch, dispose of or recycle it safely and purchase another.
Excess Oil on the Pen
Regular use of a vape pen cartridge can cause excess oil to build up where the cartridge and pen make a connection. Take a q-tip, dab it with some rubbing alcohol and make sure the very top of the pen is free of excess oil. Ensure the pen is completely dry before reconnecting and firing the cartridge after cleaning.
Note, that this can happen regardless of the type of cartridge, whether it’s nicotine or a full spectrum CBD vape cartridge.
Cartridge Too Loose or Tight
Over tightening or not screwing a cartridge in enough are two of the most common issues with a vape pen not working. Over tightening can cause the cartridge to short out, while a loose cartridge won’t make a proper connection. Take the cartridge off completely, then screw it down until it makes a connection, and you should be enjoying your vape pen cartridge flavors in no time.
510 Connection Pin Not Making Contact
The 510 connector pin is the small metal pin on the very bottom of the cartridge that makes electrical contact with the vape pen. Sometimes these can get pushed too far into the cartridge and need to be pulled out slightly.
Using a pair of tweezers, gently pull the 510 pin out a millimeter, but be careful not to remove it entirely. Doing so can expose the positive and negative wires, permanently damaging the cartridge. The 510 pin sits in a plastic insulator and isn’t permanently attached to the cartridge, so be very careful during this process.
Keep Calm and Vape On
Now that you know how to fix simple vape connection issues, you’re ready to bring your vaping to the next level. Keep calm and relax with the best vape pen cartridge you’ve ever experienced. Your mind, body, and spirit will thank you!
