The game, developed by Top Games Inc., saw a surge in popularity, with 46,286,214 downloads in 2022, an increase from the previous year. The game also performed exceptionally well in the US market, generating net revenue of $220,610,513 through US sales in 2022, a significant increase from the $117,722,783 earned in 2021. The number of US downloads also saw a substantial increase, with 8,815,234 devices downloading the game in 2022 compared to 6,787,227 in 2021, according to Sensor Tower.
Top Games Inc. originally released “Evony: The King’s Return” in 2016 and advertised it on the 2017 Superbowl telecast. That ad featured international celebrities and ranks among the Top 10 Superbowl Commercials. The ad also won an Exemplary Cinematography Merit Award and ranked No. 2 in the Top 10 Music and Sound Awards for Superbowl commercials. Once the ad appeared, the game’s popularity began.
The game has continued to be popular, becoming one of the Top Five Most Downloaded Games in the U.S. and one of the top-grossing games across 50 countries. It has a rating of 4.4 out of 5 on the Google Play store and 4.1 out of 5 on the Apple App store.
Players of the real-time game build cities and train troops, solving puzzles to expand their empires. The game takes place on a world map, and other players can march against an empire anytime. The empire leader must defend the kingdom. Players can call on the expertise of historical leaders such as George Washington, Charles the Great, and Julius Caesar to build and protect their empires. The object is to emerge as the “King of Seven Kingdoms.”
