Five Slick Modern Sedans

Sedans, though regarded as the most common and conventional types of vehicles out there, are in fact still very much in vogue, and not just with enthusiasts.

Many brands still produce sedans despite the crossover and SUV onslaught and even go so far as to cater to a variety of appeals by offering several trims.

There’s the Honda Accord Sport for example – a specialized trim that comes equipped with various sport-centric specifications aimed at improving the driving experience and drive dynamics not found in the rest of the lineup. Even relatively new automakers such as Tesla are still introducing new sedan models into their ranges. So with sedans still being relevant, here are five top-notch sporty saloons.

Pros
  • Well-balanced drive dynamics in engagement and road comfort
  • They are ideal for driving on city roads
  • They are livable and practical daily’s thanks to three-box design
  • Low-center of gravity makes them safe and unlikely of toppling
  • Relatively affordable in comparison to cars with other body styles
Cons
  • Typically aren’t presented with many powertrain options
  • Are not the best for towing or hauling large or hefty loads
  • Drivers are perched quite low which hinders visibility
  • Not purposed for taking on any level of rough terrain
  • Won’t fit more than just five passengers

Honda Accord

There is a massive selection of cool-looking, affordable midsize sedans available on the market, especially within the USA.

The Honda Accord is one of these, standing out for the various appeals it can cater to with five different trims making up the latest lineup. Objectively, it’s one of the best-looking modern sedans out there with its aggressive front-end styling and coupe-styled backend.

Honda offers the Accord with three engine options, though availability does depend on the trim chosen – the Sport trims, of which there are two, are offered with either a zesty 1.5-liter or sprightly 2.0-liter turbo-four engine. Those engines, along with the Accords standard-fit front-wheel drivetrain make it a blast to hoon around.

Genesis G80

On the more premium side of the market, the Genesis G80 combines a sporty, yet still very sophisticated aesthetic with a masterfully refined and ultra-luxurious driving experience.

And despite its premium status, it’s still relatively affordable in comparison to other cars in its league. Two powerful engines are offered with the G80, the larger of which produces 375 horsepower, and both of which can be paired to either a rear-wheel or all-wheel-drivetrain.

Performance from either setup is exquisite down low, though competitors tend to deliver more oomph at higher speeds. The G80 is ideal for the successful businessman that enjoys an easy and relaxed driving experience in a truly opulent car.

Porsche Taycan

The Porsche Taycan was forged by driving and car-enthusiast gods that were looking to create the perfect driver’s car. There are various powertrain options available – the 4S version with the 79.2 kWh battery pack being the most optimised for performance. It’s dual electric motor setup produces up to 522 hp allowing for a 0-60 mph sprint time of only 3.8 seconds.

That adrenaline-inducing straight-line performance is accompanied by exhilarating handling capabilities, making the Taycan a true driver’s car despite being an electric vehicle.

While the base model is relatively affordable, optional extras and packages are excruciatingly expensive.

Kia Forte

The Kia Forte is a consummate representation of an everyday family sedan with its homespun design, sedate performance, and really affordable MSRP. It is rated as an incredibly safe and reliable car, too, and comes standard with a good selection of driver-assist technologies and safety features. Being that it’s in the lower end of the market, it’s no surprise that it delivers a very straightforward and rather mundane driving experience, prioritizing efficiency and fuel economy over enjoyment.

That being said, the available GT model comes with a peppy turbocharged motor and is one of the last remaining modern cars offered with a manual gearbox.

Tesla Model S

Tesla has garnered a massive lead in the EV space and has become renowned for its production of some of the best electric vehicles in the world.

Though excruciatingly expensive, the Model S offers owners what most other EV’s can’t – apart from being able to sprint from 0-60 mph in a lightning-quick 3.7 seconds, 2.3 seconds in the Performance variant, it also delivers an unprecedented all-electric range of over 400 miles on a single charge.

As a Tesla product, its design is minimal and the cabin space modern and minimalist, though still brimming with advanced specs and conveniences. It’s an incredibly practical sedan, too, offering plenty of cargo room both in the frunk and the trunk.

While even just the word sedan could bring up images of old, decrepit rust buckets, the truth is sedans are still very alive and well, and savvy shoppers would certainly still do good opting for one of the many three-box saloons out there.

They hold many advantages over many of the other vehicle body styles, and while SUVs and crossovers may be swarming the roads like an army of zombies, sedans will start to stand out for their unique, slick looks.
